Each painting from Chandel's Gallery is a handcrafted, original piece of art. With the right care, your artwork can retain its beauty and last for generations. Please follow these guidelines to help preserve your painting.

1. Placement

  • Hang or display your artwork away from direct sunlight, as prolonged UV exposure can cause colors to fade over time.
  • Avoid placing the painting near heat sources such as radiators, heaters, or direct air-conditioning vents, as sudden temperature changes can affect the canvas and paint.
  • Choose a spot with stable humidity. Excess moisture can damage the canvas, frame, or paper, while very dry conditions can cause cracking.
  • Avoid hanging artwork in bathrooms, kitchens, or other high-moisture areas.

2. Cleaning

  • Dust your painting gently using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth or a soft-bristle brush.
  • Do not use water, cleaning sprays, chemicals, or wet cloths directly on the painted surface, as this may damage the paint or canvas.
  • For framed and glass-covered artwork, clean the glass separately using a glass cleaner applied to the cloth (never spray directly onto the glass near the frame), and gently wipe.
  • Avoid touching the painted surface directly with your hands, as oils from skin can affect the artwork over time.

3. Handling

  • Always hold paintings by the frame or edges, never by the canvas surface.
  • When moving or transporting the artwork, carry it upright and avoid leaning heavy objects against it.
  • If the artwork is unframed, handle it with extra care and avoid bending or rolling the canvas/paper.

4. Framing and Hanging

  • Use appropriate wall hooks or fittings rated for the weight of the framed artwork.
  • Ensure the artwork is hung securely and levelled to avoid accidental falls.
  • If you plan to reframe the artwork, we recommend consulting a professional framer experienced in handling fine art.

5. Long-Term Storage

If you need to store the artwork instead of displaying it:

  • Wrap it in acid-free paper or a breathable cloth (avoid plastic wrap, which can trap moisture).
  • Store it flat or upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Avoid stacking heavy objects on top of stored artwork.

6. Unframed Works on Paper

For unframed sketches or works on paper:

  • Keep them flat between acid-free sheets to prevent creasing or bending.
  • Avoid exposure to humidity, as paper is especially sensitive to moisture.
  • We recommend framing paper-based artwork promptly to protect it from dust and handling damage.

7. Repairs and Restoration

  • Please do not attempt to repair, touch up, or restore any damage yourself, as this can permanently affect the value and integrity of the artwork.
